A chieftain of Igboezue, an igbo socio-cultural organisation in South Africa, Mr. Chris Nwokoye, has declared support for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi, in the forthcoming general elections.
Nwokoye in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt, expressed the hope that Atiku and Obi will create jobs and wealth for Nigerians, if elected, saying that the duo have the potentials to turn around the country because of their wealth of experience.
The Igbo leader said: “I wish to thank the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for choosing Mr Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra state as his vice presidential candidate.
“With their wealth of experience, they will turn around the economy of our country for good. The combination is a good one and I believe that if elected, they will deliver on their promises.”
Nwokoye, who is also the spokesman of Anambra State Association (ASA) in South Africa, stated that Anambra people in South Africa will mobilise those at home to come out enmasse and vote on Election Day.
He said: “It is important to shun voter apathy. The time has come for our people to vote for candidates of their choice. Voter apathy is not in our interest. We will ensure that the people support the Atiku and Obi ticket.”
The Igboezue chieftian also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the election is free, fair and credible.
Nwokoye said: “The 2015 election is on record to be free and fair. INEC has the potential to repeat a similar feat in the 2019 election. Besides, International and Local observers are already mobilised for the election.
“Nigeria is in the eyes of the world and INEC cannot afford to disappoint the people. The will of the people, through their votes must prevail. The people should be allowed to elect candidates of their choice.”
