Mother Africa took centre stage in the United States at the weekend as Indianapolis-Marion City-County Council issued a formal proclamation in honour of Nigeria’s iconic socio-cultural group, Kegites Club.

The proclamation recognised the contributions of the Americana Archaivar Plus Convergence and the Universal Archaivar Elders, citing their roles in promoting cultural preservation, unity, and community development both within Nigeria and across the diaspora.

The recognition was announced during the unveiling of the club’s 2026 world gyration crest held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, in Indianapolis. The event attracted dignitaries, elders, fellows, and members of the Nigerian diaspora in a celebration of peace, respect, and brotherhood.

A key highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of the crest by Vop Osili, a prominent Democratic leader, City-County Council member representing District 11, and former Council President (2018–2026), who recently declared his intention to contest the 2027 mayoral election in Indianapolis.
Osili, who signed the proclamation alongside City-County Clerk Yulonda Winfield, was also inducted into the Kegites Club as a patron, alongside several others including a 79-year-old grandmother, Mrs. Adediwura Faturoti.

Speaking at the event, Osili commended the organisation for fostering unity and cultural pride among Nigerians abroad.
“What I witnessed here today is more than a gathering—it is a living example of unity, cultural pride, and intergenerational strength,” he said. “The Kegites Club represents a model community where heritage is preserved and people come together as one family.”

The ceremony also featured the induction of Mrs. Faturoti, symbolising the inclusive and intergenerational nature of the group.

In his remarks, Chief Bosun Ajibogun emphasised the enduring legacy of the club, noting that its strength lies in continuity and the guidance of elders. Similarly, Board Chairman Chief Adewale Fakorede and Grand Kord (Coordinator) Patron Oluranti Dairo expressed optimism about the organisation’s future growth.
Leader of the Archivar Elders, Basorun Deleola Fayth Daramola, described the unveiling as a milestone in building a lasting legacy rooted in identity, unity, and cultural continuity.

The event also recorded an emotional moment as Chief Taofeek Gbolagade Rahman attended despite the recent loss of his mother, underscoring what he described as the deep familial bond within the organisation.
Participants from across the United States, including New Jersey, attended the event, highlighting the growing reach of the Convergence. Fellow Habib Akinyemi described the gathering as a powerful demonstration of unity among Nigerians in the diaspora.
In his closing remarks, Indy Tent Coordinator, Fellow Tola Adesuyi, described the occasion as the beginning of a broader movement aimed at strengthening cultural ties and inspiring future generations.

The Americana Archaivar Plus Convergence, under the umbrella of the Universal Archaivar Elders, continues to expand its presence globally, with the unveiling of the 2026 crest marking another step in its mission to promote African heritage, unity, and mentorship.
The event ended with cultural displays, gyrations, and renewed commitment to the ideals of unity and brotherhood.
