The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revised the timetable for the 2027 general elections, moving the polls forward by more than a month.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, announced that the Presidential and National Assembly elections will now hold on Saturday, January 16, 2027.

According to the Commission, the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections have also been rescheduled and will take place on Saturday, February 6, 2027.
The new dates replace the earlier schedule, which fixed the national elections for February 20 and the state-level polls for March 6.
INEC explained that although the initial dates complied with the Electoral Act 2022, the adjustment is intended to streamline the electoral calendar ahead of the next transition.
