INEC Restates Commitment To Credible Polls In A/Ibom

INEC Deletes Names Of Dead Persons From Voter Register

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Mike Igini has assured that the commission is committed to conducting free and credible elections in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria.

Igini who spoke at Ibom Hall Multipurpose Ground in Uyo yesterday during the signing of peace accord by political parties in the state said that the accord was part of the commission’s preparation for credible and acceptable 2019 general elections.

Present at the occasion was the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel, deputy governor, Mr Moses Ekpo, chairmen and candidates of political parties.

Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Mr Nsima Ekere and his running mate, Mr Amadu Attai did not attend the peace accord ceremony and were not represented.

Igini who cleared the air on the rumours of his redeployment to Bayelsa State said he is still the REC in Akwa Ibom and have not been moved to any state.

“I’m still the REC here in Akwa Ibom State  and have not been moved or  redeployed  to any state as being rumoured,” Igini stated.

He explained that the REC in Bayelsa State is Elder Monday Tom, who is an indigene of Akwa Ibom State and cannot be transferred to his home state but can serve in any other state in the south-south zone of the country.

The APC in the state is yet to issue an official statement on why it would not sign the peace accord.
