Pipeline professionals to mull policy framework
The Pipeline Professionals Association of Nigeria (PLAN), and Energy & Corporate Africa (ECA), promoters of the Nigerian International Pipeline Technology and Security Conference (NIPITEC), announces the second edition of the conference scheduled for September 18 -19, 2018, Abuja, Nigeria.

According to the organisers, NIPITECS is one of the ways PLAN promotes its commitment to advancing, upgrading, and supporting the effective installation, maintenance, utilisation and security of the pipeline infrastructure technology in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa.

The theme of this year’s conference, “Enhancing Infrastructural Development and Rehabilitating Existing Pipeline Systems: An Imperative for Economic Development,” recognises pipelines as vital network in the transportation of crude oil, and natural gas for various utilisations: domestic, commercial, and inter-regional distributions.

A statement from the organisers said NIPITECS will showcase pipeline, technology and security investment opportunities in Nigeria, sub-Saharan Africa, and its integration with the global market.

It also presents a platform for learning, gaining insight, sharing knowledge and networking among policy makers, operators, investors, banks and governments to harmonise relationship and investment opportunities.

Furthermore, the conference will host technical presentations, panel sessions, exhibition, and award night.

The organisers noted that since the Chinese first used bamboo to transport crude oil from production points, pipelines have continued to be the significant bridge between upstream, midstream and downstream.

“It has helped to ease transportation and distribution of products domestically and regionally, reduce cost, enhance safety, ensure operational efficiency in the supply chain and energize socio-economic development. In fact, pipelines as essential infrastructure in every producing nation have been dubbed “Pipeline of wealth and economic buoyancy. This depicts its extreme importance in the oil and gas value chain,” it added.

It listed some of the expected and confirmed keynote speakers to include, Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Maikanti Baru; Executive Secretary, Nigerian Content Monitoring Board, Simbi Wabote; Executive Director, Infrastructural Concessions Regulatory Commission, Chidi Izuwah, and a host of many other industry chiefs.
