Kano State commissioner for local government, Hon Murtala Sulen Garo,  has refuted allegations that the sum of N223 million has been withdrawn from the state join account for disbursement  to the 30 affected LGAs  where re- run elections will be taking place .

Speaking to the press yesterday in the state capital, the commissioner said it is not true that the said funds was disbursed in order to finance the re- run election.

The Money in question was disbursed with a purpose as it was specifically targetted at 13 local government areas for renovation purposes and construction of drainages among others not for re-run election.”

He cited some local governments where such monies were released as Kumbotso local government, N12 million,  Kabo local government, N24 million and Tsanyawa N17 million in which no  re-run election is going to hold.

Similarly, no money was released to Dala and Rano local government areas despite the fact that there would be a re run election in those local governments. Therefore whoever is peddling such rumour is only doing so based on the pigment of his imagination.

He said “first of all, we are not removing money from the Ministry for  local government. The Ministry for local government is just a supervisory Ministry.”

Garo recalled how the previous administration of Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was accused of massive withdrawals of about N70 million each from the coffers of all the 44 local government areas in the state.

He said he was the ALGON chairman then when such withdrawals were made and he stand a better chance to explain what went wrong during that period .
