A member of the victim’s family, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the abductors contacted the family on Friday.

“They demanded N60m as ransom. They did not even wait for negotiations before ending the call.

“This is a terrible moment for us and it’s traumatic. We just pray that they do not harm him,” the source added.

The police said they were trailing Erubu’s abductors and had yet to make headway.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ajayi Okasanmi, on Sunday, said, “The Commissioner of Police, Tuesday Assayomo, has directed a rescue operation to ensure the timely release of the victim from the kidnappers’ den.”

The victim, who is also the Magaji Erubu of the Ilorin Emirate, has spent four days in the kidnappers’ den after his abduction on Thursday.

He was said to be returning from the Ilorin metropolis to his Ago-Oja residence in the Asa Local Government Area of the state when the kidnappers seized him.
