The Lagos State House of Assembly has commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for allocating 67 per cent ratio of the 2018 budget to capital expenditure, and 33 per cent for recurrent spending, saying that the gesture would boost the socio/economic development of the state.

Speaking at plenary session, the lawmakers urged all hands to be on deck to make the budget a reality.

The Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, who described the budget as a gift to the people of the state, noted that it could be celebrated only if it delivers its purposes.

Obasa also urged the Adhoc Committees on Budget and Economic Planning, to ensure that the budget is well examined.
Earlier, representing Kososfe Constituency, Tunde Braimoh, urged his colleagues to give the budget accelerated consideration to enable its quick passage and delivery.

Also speaking, representing Epe Constituency 1, Abiodun Tobun, said: “The embedded power generation, upgrading of slums and proposed building of specialist hospitals in the budget is commendable.”

On his part, representing Alimosho 1, Bisi Yusuff, advised that the budget should focus on the resources of the state.

Representing Agege constituency 2, Yinka Ogundimu, hinted that the Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), must be strengthened if the budget would be a reality.

Representing Oshoi-Isolo, Jude Idimogu, said, “We should give the executive arm maximum support. “The committees should scrutinize the budget to see if it would be achievable or not.”
