The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP ), Lagos State Chapter, has taken another dimension as 35 members out of 49 petitioned the National Working Committee (NWC) again seeking the removal of the earlier suspended State Chairman, Capt Olatunji Shelle.
It will be recalled that majority of the excos had on the 11th day of May, 2015 passed a vote of no confidence on the Chairman over misappropriation of party funds and high handedness in the management of the party’s affairs amongst others.
However, the NWC reverted the supposed suspension on Capt Shelle on the basis that only the NWC has the prerogative to remove or discipline the Chairman but however directed that the aggrieved excos direct their complaints to the National Executive Committee through the National Working Committee which was done and sent on the 31st of August, 2015.
Evidence of the rancour within the executive was manifest as majority of the executives boycotted the illegal excos meeting called by Capt Shelle.
Reacting to this development, Hon Wahab Owokoniran, revealed to the press that the meeting the Chairman summoned was unconstitutional and illegal since he was not privy to it and he added that the vote of confidence claimed to have been passed was by less than 14 members of the excos out of 49.
His statements read in parts: we are calling on the NWC of our great party to call Captain Shelle to order and discourage him from promoting illegalities.
” Nothing can be achieved when majority of the party members and excos are aggrieved and we are urging the public to disregard his posture as the Chairman noting that until the NWC takes a decision and intervene, it is a graveyard peace”.
