Lagos Three-Storey Building Fire Caused By Power Surge, Says LASEMA

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has said the fire that gutted a three-storey building in the Surulere area of the state on New Year’s day was caused by a power surge.

In a statement issued, the Agency said the topmost part of the building was affected by the fire with two flats, each having four bedrooms, engulfed.

No loss of life nor injuries were recorded as a result of the fire, LASEMA said in the statement titled ‘Surulere Fire Outbreak… LASEMA responds promptly, no casualty recorded.’

According to the Agency, “Consequent upon the arrival of the Agency’s Response Team at Igando at the scene of a fire outbreak today, Saturday, 1st, 2021 at 27, Onadeko Street, off Lawanson Road, Surulere, it was observed that the topmost floor of a three-storey building was gutted by fire. The fire outbreak was caused by a power surge.

“The fire engulfed two flats of four-bedroom flat each, destroying properties worth millions. No loss of life nor injuries were recorded at the incident scene. At the incident scene were LASEMA Fire Team Lagos State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service, NPF and Red Cross

“The fire was totally put off this evening while dampening down was completed.”
