The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the Simba Group of Companies have conducted a road safety training for women riders as part of their Queen Riders Training Programme.

A LASTMA representative, Mrs Nike Ogunbadejo, made this known in a statement on Wednesday, saying the Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service, Ejigbo Zone, supported the scheme.

Ogunbadejo was quoted to have said this during the grand finale of the training in Ikotun.

She said, “The Queen Riders Training initiative was held by the collaboration of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, the Vehicle Inspection Service and the Simba Group to train riders, in this case, women riders, on safe riding, road safety awareness, traffic laws and basic maintenance of tricycles.”

A senior executive of Simba Group, Mrs Grace Oladapo, said the programme was aimed at empowering women across the state.

The Queen Riders is Simba Group’s flagship women empowerment programme borne from the group’s desire to train women from underrepresented backgrounds, so that they have a chance to participate in this sector – a major employer in the country – and increase their household income.

“The Simba training school provided training to these riders, free of cost. After the women are trained and certified, they also connected with various tricycle fleet owners and microfinance institutions so that they have a better chance of availing these micro-entrepreneurship opportunities,” she said.
