On 21 November, as part of the framework of coordination of international technical cooperation with the State of Libya, the Libyan authorities, with the support of the International Migration Agency ( IOM ), activated the Migration Task Force, headed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Organization for Migration. Framework for the Coordination of International Technical Cooperation with the State of Libya, which was adopted during the meeting of the Higher Policy Committee held on 18 July 2017 in Tripoli.
The meeting, which was held in the Ministry of Planning by the Director of the European Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was chaired by Mr. Jalal Al-Assi, with the participation of the Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Osman Belbeisi. Representatives of the relevant Libyan ministries, as well as ambassadors, embassy representatives, other United Nations agencies and a high-level delegation from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) headquarters attended the meeting.

The Working Group aims to coordinate common migration strategies and policies and to establish a platform for constructive discussion with a view to providing mechanisms and solutions to effectively manage migration, while respecting human rights and reducing the impact of illegal migration.
The team leader, Mr. Jalal Al-Assi, stressed the importance of activating this team at this particular time to look forward to working closely with the international community in general and the International Organization for Migration in particular to overcome outstanding problems and develop ways to address the phenomenon of migration in the entire region.
Othman Belbeisi, Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), said: “We hope that this working group will be the first step towards coordinating efforts to manage the migration file to the benefit of all.”
A number of subgroups will be activated to cover key priority areas to address and regulate migration, such as policies, border management and public health issues.
