Following the revocation of 54 broadcast stations’ licenses by the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, on Monday, the affected stations yesterday besieged the commission’s headquarters in Abuja for settlement of their debts.
Vanguard investigation revealed that some of the affected station have started paying their debts in cheques, while others go in person to seek for easy settlement of their indebtedness to the NBC.
According to the Assistant Director, Public Affairs in the commission, Mr. Kanem Antia, beyond announcing the revocation plan, the commission had earlier written to all the indebted stations informing them of the plan.

According to him, the announcement seems to have put all the affected stations on their toes as they have started scampering for means of reversing the revocation order.
“I can confirm to you that some of the affected stations have started sending in cheques; others coming in person to see how to settle their cases.”
“I can see that the action we took yesterday in revoking their licenses has put them on their toes. Some who could not come to our headquarters went to our zonal offices to settle their cases.
“There are those who said they do not want their names to be on the list preferably to avoid embarrassment. Maybe, they will pay all their debts before the 31 March deadline given by the commission, including those yet to lose their license. I can say that the response we are getting is encouraging,” he said.
