There was low turnout during the local government elections held across the 17 LGAs of Plateau State to elect the various chairmen and councillors.

Daily Trust on Sunday reports that the fact that the election was without fierce contest being that the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) did not participate in the election due to a court judgment, could have contributed to the low turnout of voters.

An Appeal court had barred the PDP from participating for failing to follow certain procedures in conducting its earlier congress and the attendant primaries.

Our correspondent reports that the election was peaceful but recorded poor turnout of voters across many polling units in the state.

However, Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, has praised the electorate for their peaceful conduct and turn out to exercise their franchise.
