A 33 -year-old trader, Sunday Obifegan, who allegedly stole wine in a supermarket, was on Friday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused who resides in Mushin area of Lagos is standing trial on a count charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Aondohemba Koti, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Jan. 28 in Ladipo Street, Mushin, Lagos.
Koti said that the accused stole two bottles of wine and perfume, property of Addide Supermarket, Mushin, Lagos.
“The accused entered the supermarket on the pretext of buying goods, stole two bottles of wine and perfume and hid them inside his trousers.
“His action was discovered through the footage of the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera,” he said.
He said that the accused had in Dec. 28, 2017 stole some items from the supermarket which was discovered through the CCTV camera after he had left.
“The accused came to the store in Dec. 28 to steal and his picture was noted.
“He came back exactly a month after to carry out his mission again but luck ran against him and he was caught in the act,” the prosecutor said.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years imprisonment for stealing.
The Margistrate, A.O. Ogbe, granted the accused N50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Ogbe said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until Feb. 12 for mention.
