The Osun State Police Command, on Wednesday, said it had commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of one Monsuru Lawal, who was killed on Tuesday in Osogbo.

Sources in Oja Oba and Isale Osun areas of Osogbo, who spoke to PUNCH Metro, said the deceased was shot at close range after an argument with a yet-to-be identified young woman.

A trader at the Oja Oba area, who preferred anonymity for security reasons, said Lawal’s death was caused by argument over a telephone allegedly bought from him.

She said a young woman, whose name could not be immediately ascertained, had earlier purchased a mobile phone from the deceased, only to return it around 9pm with the claim that the phone was faulty.

The trader stated, “The young woman, who bought the phone, brought a man to persuade the seller of the phone to refund her money and take the phone back. An argument later ensued between them and we heard a gunshot.

“Monsuru Lawal was shot and he died on the spot. The man, who accompanied the young woman to the scene, allegedly shot the phone seller. Both the woman and the man immediately fled the scene.”

Another source in the area said late Lawal was at a pub in the Isale Osun area with some of his friends when a gunman entered and shot at him repeatedly.

A reliable security source said the remains of the deceased had been deposited in the morgue of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Folasade Odoro, said the command was aware of the incident and had already commenced investigation into it. [PUNCH]
