Denrele Edun, the Nigerian media personality, has recounted some of his ugly childhood experiences.
In the latest edition of ‘Who is in my House’ podcast by Hawa Magaji podcast, Denrele spoke about his childhood trauma, heartbreak, and career.

Denrele said his family once moved from a mansion to an uncompleted building “which has no doors, windows and was close to a farmland”.

“We lived in this huge mansion at Agbara Estate. My dad invested in a bakery not far from the estate. All of a sudden, it was like a reversal of fortune. We lost everything,” he said.
The media personality also recalled how they struggled to feed. He said at some point, they ate “boiled cassava for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.”

Denrele said while they were living with some of his cousins, his mum was subjected to constant ridicule from them.

He said it got to the point where she was described as a “prostitute, poverty-stricken Indian” to the surprise of the people around their neighborhood.
“I lived in a house with so many cousins. But then there was never a moment they never tried to ridicule me, cut me down to size… my sisters were just about 12 or 16, they had already labeled them prostitutes,” he said.

“I remember mornings like environmental sanitation. We would come out to clean the gutter, somebody will just sneak in to go and meet my mother. You’ll just start hearing prostitute, poverty-stricken Indian.

“Surprisingly, everyone on that street knew what was going on. Every time I could not fight back. Because if I fight back, I felt that they’d throw us out.”
