Newly elected president of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Musa Kida has declared that the recent achievements of D’Tigress, D’Tigers and the junior basketball teams in the African scene would serve as a reference to FIBA that the board is ready to grow dunking game in the country.

The Guardian recalls that the world basketball body issued an ultimatum that the crises that threw up two boards for the game must be resolved by November or Nigeria would be sanctioned.

However, Kida feels that FIBA as a professional body cannot bring down any basketball association that is performing its duties excellently.

The NBBF boss said that after just a few months of assuming office, it has taken the national teams to big heights in the continent, just as it has also settled rifts and lifted the indefinite sanctions imposed on some clubs, coaches and players for participating in ‘illegal’ leagues by the past board in 2015.

“FIBA doesn’t have any reason to sanction NBBF in November. All the results are there to show that the new board is working hard to transform basketball in Nigeria. D’Tigers and D’Tigress are among the best teams in Africa now. Within a short time frame we were able to raise teams that dominated Africa. Hard work and resources were sacrificed to make this happen.

“FIBA is a professional body, they are ready to work with a winning team. My next target is to ensure D’Tigers get the World Cup ticket and also plan ahead for next year’s men and women league,” he said.

Kida reiterated that his board is ready to operate and lead with the best interest of the game, saying that any decision taken in future will be for the overall interest of all stakeholders in the game.
