The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has announced that it is commencing its series of 2018 training workshops for film, television and media practitioners in Jos, Plateau State, with 70 trainees from the six geopolitical zones of the country.
The one-week training workshop will begin on Monday, March 12 and ends on Saturday, March 17, at the National Film Institute, Jos.In a statement, signed by Brian Etuk, NFC Head of Public and Intergovernmental Affairs, disclosed that participants for the workshop are drawn from relevant MDA’s, film and television stations, production studios and companies.
According to Etuk, the workshop would provide opportunities for practitioners to horn their skills as well as up their professional competencies, adding that trainees are expected to apply new skills to be learnt and improve on their film and television productions.

The statement noted that the workshop is part of NFC’s response to the skills gap analysis of the Nigerian film industry. It also fits into one of the core mandates of NFC to provide training and capacity building for film and television practitioners.
“The training workshop will offer opportunities for film/television and communication specialists/practitioners to perfectly fit into emerging global trends and best practices as a result of digital revolution,” Etuk said.
Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, the Corporation’s Managing Director is quoted as saying that the training workshop will equally help participants appraise existing and new developments within the context of broad range of traditional filmmaking techniques and applications in film and television production.
“The workshop is designed to incorporate a blended learning approach that combines personal experience, classroom tutorials and practical that will justify the time-period participants will spend away from their organisations, to the maximum,” he said.
NFC, through the series of training workshops designed for the year, some of which will be in partnership with state governments, Federal Agencies and Foreign Embassies in Nigeria, is demonstrating its commitment to continuously provide training opportunities that will ultimately lead to domestic and international consistency in capacity and manpower development for film and television production. The workshop will cover, scripting, cinematography, production management, editing, still photography and directing.
