According to a statement by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, initial checks showed a sudden pressure drop, suggesting a loss of containment on a pipeline operated by the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company.

“The cause of the explosion is still unknown,” Odeh said. “A full investigation is under way and will determine the exact circumstances.”

He added that community safety remained the company’s top priority.

“Emergency response procedures have been activated, and we are working closely with authorities and community leaders to mitigate any impact on people and the environment.”

Odeh reaffirmed NNPC’s commitment to maintaining high safety and environmental standards, noting that further updates would be provided once more information becomes available.
