Hygenus Ekwuazi
The Nigerian Oral Literature Association (NOLA) will, from November 1 through 4, hold its 5th yearly conference at the University of Ibadan (UI), Oyo State. It has as theme ‘Performance, Popular Arts And The New Media,’ with a professor of film studies, Hygenus Ekwuazi of UI, delivering the keynote address, while lead paper presenters include Professors Leticia Mbaiver (Benue State University, Makurdi), Ahmed Yerima (Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State) and Nkem Okoh (University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State).
The association is calling for paper presentations on the theme with particular reference to Nigeria and its Diaspora communities.According to statement from president of the association and folk expert, Prof. Gordini G. Darah, interested persons sending any paper or would wish to be part of a panel should clearly defined the thesis, show familiarity with research trends and address the conference theme. Abstracts of not more than 250 words, bearing author’s name, institutional affiliation, e-mail address, and brief bio note should be sent to: [email protected] not later than October 20, while notification of acceptance will be sent with effect from that date.

The Conference Organising Committee invites papers and panels from several academic disciplines, including literature, folklore, history, theatre, drama, linguistics/languages, sociology, philosophy, religious studies, cultural studies, media studies, popular culture, performance studies, ethnomusicology, anthropology, ethnography, visual and creative arts, etc. that will engage and interrogate the ways in which performance and the popular arts intertwine with the new media to influence cultural productions.The conference will also focus on the growing genres and traditions of popular arts generated and influenced by advances in new media.
