Elected senators on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the northern part of the country have aligned with the aspiration of Senator Ajayi Boroffice (APC, Ondo North) to emerge as the Deputy Senate President of the 9th Senate.

The APC has officially zoned the position of Senate Presidency to the North East geo-political zone but has yet to make official pronouncement on the zoning of other leadership positions for both chambers of the National Assembly.

LEADERSHIP gathered that influential senators, including former governors, from NorthWest, North East and NorthCentral zones have declared support for the third term senator, who represents Ondo North senatorial district.

A ranking senator and former governor who does not want his name mentioned, said northern senators are with Boroffice because of his amiable personality and loyalty to Mr. President.

He added, “His campaign has been extensive and quiet. Very rewarding. Most of us in the North are with Boroffice. We did parliamentary support group together so we can trust him to protect the interest of Mr. President and the party at the leadership level. The North is on lockdown for him. He is one of us”.

Boroffice is one of the contenders for the position of Deputy Senate President. Other contenders are Senators Ibukunle Amosun, Francis Alimikhena, Ovie OmoAgege, Oluremi Tinubu and Senator-elect, Orji Uzor Kalu.
