NSE’s indices down by N101 billion

gains from the excitement from the news of Nigeria’s exit from recession waned significantly at the opening of the trading week on yesterday, as transactions on the trading floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) reopened on a downward note.

This was occasioned by price losses incurred by major highly capitalised stocks, causing market capitalisation to plummet by N101billion.Specifically, at the close of trading yesterday, the NSE All-share index was down by 0.81 per cent to 35664.94 points from 35957.24 traded previously.

Also, market capitalisation of listed equities depreciated by N101 billion to N12.292 trillion, from N12.393 trillion recorded on the previous day.
Investors for the day traded 114.768 million shares worth N2.172billion in 3232 deals against 152.466million shares exchanged hands in 4079 deals.
   
Further breakdown of yesterday’s transactions showed that Nestle Nigeria Plc emerged the day’s highest price loser, shedding N10.00 to close at N1210.00 per share.Dangote Cement followed with a loss of N5.00 to close at N210.00.

Okomu Oil fell by N3.10 kobo to close at N59.90 per share. Flour Mills Nigeria Plc lost N1.00 to close at N29.00 per share. Guaranty Trust Bank also dropped by N0.74 kobo to close at N37.80 per share.
   
On the other hand, Total Nigeria Plc led the gainers table growing by N2.00 to close at N235.00 per share, while UAC of Nigeria followed with a gain of N0.40kobo to close at N15.00 per share.
   
Ecobank Transnational Incorporated gained N0.32 kobo to close at N18.00, National Salt Company of Northern Nigeria gained N0.30 kobo to close at N13.30 kobo, while Forte Oil added N0.29 kobo to close at N49.99 kobo
   
Analysis of the transactions showed that Zenith International Bank was most active stock during the day, exchanging 19.830 million shares worth N463.521million. Access Bank followed with account of 12.063 million shares valued at N117.027million.
   
UAC Property traded 10.380 million shares cost N30.590million, Diamond Bank Plc sold 6.802 million shares worth N7.950million, while C & I Leasing exchanged 6.311 million shares valued at N6.724million.
