Former president Olusegun Obasanjo and Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State will be guests at the finals of the Lagos International Squash Classics, which ends today at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium.
Obasanjo, who is the grand patron of the game of squash in Nigeria, confirmed his presence and will be welcome by Governor Ambode, the special guest of honour at the $20,000 prize money championship.
Already, the only Nigerian competing in the main draw of the men’s event, Babatunde Ajagbe narrowly lost to Egypt’s Shehab Essam 11-3, 11-7, 11-9, in an encounter the Egyptian admitted was his toughest game in recent time.

One of the nation’s top-ranked players, Onaopemipo Adegoke, said competing against the best in the world at the championship has afforded him the opportunity to acquire new skills that will help him in future classics.
The Lagos State government-sponsored championship has continued to receive accolades from squash experts, which they believed has provided the platform for local players to test their strength against their foreign counterparts as well as to amass ranking points.
The championship is organised by the Lagos State Squash Association in collaboration with the Lagos State Sports Commission and with the support of the Nigeria Squash Federation.
