Onoja told NAN in Enugu on Monday that there was no unpleasant report concerning soldiers deployed to assist other sister-security agencies in keeping the peace, describing the army operatives as exemplary in their conduct during the polls.

He said that the army personnel deployed for the elections in Enugu state exhibited a high sense of discipline.

He said that they were not only well behaved but discharged their mandate diligently in the state, where he supervised.

Onoja, who is a member of Global Development Centre on Rescue Mission in Nigeria, said that the South-East was generally peaceful and calm during the polls.

He said, “The security in the South-East, especially Enugu state, was okay and the whole area was quiet and calm during the polls,’’ he said.

He said that the general peaceful atmosphere experienced in the zone could not have been possible, if not for the dutifulness of the security agencies, especially the Nigerian Army.

NAN recalls that the General Officer Commanding, 82 Division, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Maikobi, had warned that any operative reported or caught engaging in unprofessional conduct during the elections would be dealt with according to military rules.
