A coalition of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC-accredited election observers, under the aegis of Campaign for Dignity in Governance, CDG, has commended Nigerians and INEC for the conduct of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.

Addressing a press conference in Ikeja, and speaking through the President, CDI, Comrade Razaq Olokoba, the coalition said, “We express our confidence in the conduct and the activities of INEC in the last presidential and parliamentary election that held on Saturday.

“We have received series of reports from our members, who took part in the election as observers across the country and so far it has been very satisfactory.

“Nevertheless, there are disregard-able incident of violence in a few areas of the country, but recorded history of Nigeria shows that this election is the most peaceful and well organized in the last five general elections that have held in Nigeria.”

While calling on Nigerians to at this point in time exhibit optimum level of patriotism, as the country needs everyone’s support at this moment, the coalition added, “We must be determined and resolute in standing with INEC. The result announced by INEC should be the most authentic and acceptable to Nigerians.”

It added, “We hereby express our confidence and support ahead of the outcome of the result that will be announced by INEC and we enjoin every Nigerian to join us in this.

“Our organization with other groups will continue to do our best in the best interest of Nigeria our nation.”

The coalition alsodissociated itself from the activities of some civil society organisations playing the spoiler and making themselves available as a willing tool in the hand of the reactionary politicians, saying that the will of the people has been expressed through the ballot last Saturday and no force can upturn it with any fabrications and concocted figures and unsubstantiated datas.

It said, “Nigerians are way beyond this type of primitive politics and ventures. Our country must continue to work and Nigerians have demonstrated that they have risen above this type of reactionary machinations.”

The group of observers, who said they meant well for Nigeria promised to continue to “objectively inform Nigerians the right and the true reports as we proceed.”

It said, “We encourage INEC, the security agencies and all the institutions and apparatus of government involved in the last election to remain focus and resolute  as Nigerians have taken a resolve to stand by INEC and all the institutions.”
