Men of the Ogun state police command have arrested four suspects who specialise in attacking fulani herdsmen before dispossessing them of their cows.
The four suspects, identified asĀ Madu Abuchi; Onyeka Okafor; Francis Onyeka and Hafiz Mustapha were also said to have been responsible for attacking truck drivers andĀ hijacking of many cement-laden trucks within the highway corridors in the state.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the arrest of the suspects to newsmen in Abeokuta today said police operatives attached to the Owode Egba Division picked up the suspected criminals atĀ the wee hours of SaturdayĀ 19th Of August, 2017Ā at Ofada area of Obafemi Owode local government area of the state.
Oyeyemi explained that the suspects had sometimes last week,Ā robbed two Fulani herdsmen identified as Muhammed Ruga and Babuga and made away with their two big cows.
While robbing the duo of Ruga and Babuga, PPRO stated that the four suspect attacked the two herdsmen with cutlasses, tied them in both hands and legs after beaten them thoroughly before they made away with their cows.
Luck however, ran against the suspects when the police operatives got information that the Ā suspected criminalsĀ wereĀ on their way to Orile Igbehin area of Ofada for similar operation last Friday.
Acting on that tip-off,Ā the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Owode Egba, Sheu AlaoĀ led the police team to the area where the four suspects were arrested.
After theyĀ have been identified by their victims, Oyeyemi further said that the suspects have also confessed to being the brain behind the hijacking of many cement-laden trucks in the state.
PPRO also said that efforts are ongoing to arrest their accomplice, one Femi who was named as the one receiving the stolen goods into his houses in Shagamu and Itori in the Ewekoro local government area of the state.
Items recovered from them included: three cutlasses, rope, iron rod, charms, jackknife, different types of handsets, an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle and green belts suspected to be that of a security agency in the country.
Oyeyemi also said that the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu has directed that the suspects be transferred to the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (F-SARS) for discrete investigation.
