Immediate-past Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie, yesterday, said the commission supported the scrapping of post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, to protect the students from being swindled.
Okojie, however, said despite the scrapping of the post UTME, the Senate of each institution has the autonomy and authority to determine who to admit and when to admit.
The former NUC boss stated this at a welcome reception organised for him by the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB, on his return to the institution after 10 years at the NUC.
However, former Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, NUC, Professor Peter Okebukola said that rather than shut the door on Post-UTME, we should stop whatever the universities are not doing right and not throw the baby out with the bath water.
‘’Post-UTME, as originally conceived in 2004, not in its present adulterated form, is still a must if we are to get quality students for our higher education system,’’ he added.
