Olubadan Left a Lasting Legacy, Sanwo-Olu Mourns

Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday expressed his condolence to the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, over the demise of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1, who died on January 2.

In a condolence message on his social media pages, Sanwo-Olu noted that the first-class monarch left a lasting legacy for his people.

Oba Adetunji had passed on at the age of 93 at the University College Teaching Hospital, Ibadan, after a brief illness.

Sanwo-Olu’s condolence message read, “The news of the passing of the 41st Olubadan Oba Saliu Adetunji at the age of 93 has brought an end to a glorious era and remarkable reign of an outstanding traditional ruler in Yorubaland and Nigeria as a whole.

“On behalf of the government and people of Lagos, I commiserate with the Governor of Oyo State Engr. Seyi Makinde and the people of the ancient city of Ibadan, family, friends and associates of the deceased.

“His death is a great loss to the people of Ibadan and he will be greatly missed. He made lots of positive impact during his lifetime, contributing meaningfully to the growth and development of Ibadan, Oyo State and Nigeria at large as a philanthropist, foremost music promoter and later as a traditional ruler.
Oba Adetunji as a first class traditional ruler left a lasting legacy that the people of Ibadanland will continue to cherish.

I pray that Almighty God be pleased with the soul of the late monarch and grant the royal family and the people of Ibadan the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
