As part of its programme aimed at promoting physical fitness among indigenes of Onicha-Ugbo, Aniocha North Local Council of Delta State, Zitas Marathon Project is set to host the first ever marathon in the community.

The marathon will hold on September 28, 2018.The race’s Planning Committee Chairman, Kogolo Paul said in Lagos at the weekend that the marathon would also expose hidden talents in the community.According to Paul, a U.S.-trained Software Quality Assurance Engineer, the marathon would also promote oneness as well as educate the people on the many benefits of keeping fit.

Paul revealed that the first three winners in both male and female categories would earn cash and trophy rewards, while others would smile home with various prizes, as well as medals. “What inspired this initiative is health, prosperity, communal benefit and wellness.

“You cannot undermine the essence of sports in our lives. One of such sport is running. There are many benefits of running, you tend to shed unnecessary weight and remain fit. So this marathon is a way of transferring knowledge to the people. This is one of the many ways I think we can reach out to our people.

“This is the first edition and we are just testing the waters with this edition. With time, it will become more effective and impactful.”Paul said intending participants could register online through www.runonichaugbo.com. He assured participants that adequate security have been provided for the race, saying the Police, the local vigilante group, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Medical and Ambulance service would be on duty during the race.
