Turkish club, Galatasaray have announced the signing of Henry Onyekuru on loan from English Premier League side, Everton. Onyekuru joined Everton in 2016 from Eupen for €8 million but has been unable to play for the Toffees since his move due to work permit issues.

The striker was loaned out to Anderlecht last season, where he scored ten goals from 21 games in an injury blighted season. The striker fell out with the club at the end of the season when he felt the club hampered his chances of being selected for the Super Eagles at the World Cup after his injury.

The loan move to Galatasaray will earn Everton an £720,000 loan fee, while Onyekuru will be paid €1.2m and a €10,000 win bonus. The 21-year old has joined the Yellow-Reds at their pre-season camp in Switzerland.

Onyekuru tweeted after the move was completed thanking Galatasaray for the opportunity and promising to give his best for the Turkish Giants. Onyekuru was offered to Galatasaray, Besiktas and Fenerbahce but Galatasaray swopped fastest for the prodigious forward.

“Turkey’s largest team we will start with this trip very happy! I will do my best to make it a success. Thank you for this opportunity provided to me. ” Onyekuru tweeted.

It remains to be seen how Galatasaray coach Fatih Terim deploys the forward as he played different roles during his loan spell at Anderlecht. Onyekuru played as a wide forward, a wing back, a centre forward under Hein Vanhaezebrouck.

Terim said Galatasaray had been keeping tabs on Onyekuru since January and he was optimistic Onyekuru will do well with Gala.

The pacy forward with a keen eye for goal scored 22 goals in his breakout season with Eupen in the 2016-2017 Jupiler League season to finish joint highest goalscorer.

Onyekuru has played two games for the Super Eagles.
