The Chairman, Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, Chief Monday Onyeme
The Chairman, Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, Chief Monday Onyeme and the state’s Accountant-General, Cyril Agbele, have said that the adoption of high accounting standards is not negotiable for any country or organisation that wants to survive and develop.
The duo stated this while speaking to newsmen during the investiture of the 11th chairman and the biannual luncheon of the Asaba District of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), held at Grand Hotel, Asaba at the weekend.
According to Onyeme, the accounting profession is the driver of any all economies in the world, hence, any country or organisation that wants to go grow and develop must adhere to high accounting practices in all aspects.
While calling on all members of the accounting profession to bring their professional expertise to bear in government and organisations they find themselves, he pointed out that it is only that that can move our country, Nigeria from the present economic challenges.

Agbele, said that the accounting profession is the mother of all professions because, their survival largely depends on better accounting standards that will help the economy to grow.
He charged the new executive members of the Asaba District of ICAN to show good example and work according to the ethics of the profession.
The accountant-general congratulated members of the district and the founding fathers for keeping the flag flying and for making the profession the envy of all.
According to him, “to whom much is given, much is expected, don’t disappoint us, but continue to do your best to move society forward”.
Present at the occasion was the state Commissioner for Finance, Chief David Edevbie, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Accountant-General, Ndu Ogbechie, Mrs. Joy Enwa, Deputy Accountant-General, some other states accountant-generals, the representative of the National President of ICAN, founding fathers of the district, and many others.
Highlights were the inauguration of new executives for the district with Mr. Onyemaechi Ekeruche as 11th chairman and presentation of awards.
Those honoured include Sir J.U.T Okolo, Sir Moses Agboro, Mr. Cyril Agbele, Chief Sunny Odogwu, Chief David Edevbie, Mrs. Onome Adewuji and Alhaji Awa Ibrahim among others.
