An ophthalmologist, Dr Taoheed Abdullahi, on Monday cautioned teachers, parents and security agents against hitting children and crime suspects on the head, saying it could cause severe eye problem.
Abdullahi who works at the Sobi Specialist Hospital, Ilorin, also advised quarrelsome couples to avoid beating each other on the head.
Abdullahi spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin.
He noted that eyes were located on the head, and that hitting stick or other hard objects on the head could cause partial or total blindness

The specialist cautioned against the use of pencils containing lead on babies’ eyelids in a bid to beatify them.
He warned Nigerians against using traditional medicines or substances in treating eye problems to avoid sudden blindness.
Abdullahi said that patronising quack doctors for eye surgeries could worsen eye problems.
He called on the citizens to visit hospitals, at least once in a year, to check the conditions of their eyes.
He advised patients with eye problems such as cataract and glaucoma, as well as people suffering from diabetes, to consult doctors regularly.
He appealed to farmers, welders and industrial workers to protect their eyes while working to prevent substances from entering into their eyes.
