Opposition Parties Move To Wrest Power From APC In Oyo

Opposition political parties in Oyo State yesterday took a step to wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress APC at the March 12 governorship election.

The governorship candidates of major opposition parties in the state met at the Ibadan residence of the Action Democratic Party(ADP) governorship candidate and former governor of the state, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala where they perfected plans to ensure they wrest power from the ruling party.

 

Other governorship candidates at the meeting were Sen. Olufemi Lanlehin of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Chief Sharafa Alli of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

 

However, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Engr. Seyi Makinde, was absent at the meeting.

 

 

It was gathered that the meeting agreed to set up committees to look into modalities of forging an alliance ahead of the governorship election in the state.

 

 

It was gathered that they all resolved to support the party that performed better in the February 23, presidential and National Assembly election.

 

Makinde, Lanlehin, Alli confirmed that they were invited to the meeting and would be attending, just as they stressed the need to close ranks to send APC out of government in the state.

It was gathered the meeting was convened by Alao-Akala after his meeting with another former governor and leader of ZLP, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, on Tuesday.

 

Alao-Akala, during the Tuesday meeting with Ladoja at the latter’s Bodija residence, stressed the need for a coalition of opposition parties to stop APC and Governor Abiola Ajimobi from installing a successor in the state.

 

Top on the issues to be discussed at the meeting is the need to adopt the opposition party with the best performance in the National Assembly.

 

The governorship candidate of such party will also be jointly adopted by other candidates.
