Femi Falana, the lawyer representing the family of 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni (Junior), who died in controversial circumstances, has presented the interim legal advice issued by the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions to the Coroner Inquest set up to investigate the boy’s death.

A police officer attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Bamidele Olusegun, confirmed the advice, saying it was issued on December 30, 2021, after the police submitted their findings on the matter on December 23.

The news of Sylvester’s death went viral following a social media post by his cousin, Perry Oromoni, who alleged that some senior pupils of the college beat him up in his hostel because he refused to join a cult.

But the school denied the claim, stating that the boy complained of leg pain following an injury he sustained while playing football.

During the cross-examination of the police officer, Falana tendered some documents before the court, which were initially objected to by the defence counsel on the grounds that they had not come across them.

The Coroner, Magistrate Mikhail Kadiri, while adjourning till Tuesday, February 22, 2022, for the continuation of cross-examination, asked Falana to serve other parties the necessary documents.

Earlier, the father of the deceased told the inquest that justice was all he needed, adding that he believed that the findings of the coroner would help the family get closure.
