MANY churches in Ilorin, Kwara State, especially orthodox churches did not open for Sunday worship, citing the stringent protocols announced by the state government.
Also, Muslim communities across the 16 local government areas of Kwara on Friday shunned Jumat mosques following their inability to meet the state government conditions on reopening of places of worship in the state.

According to Punch, the state government on Wednesday announced the reopening of worship centres and gave some conditions that worshippers should comply with, including barring of children and old people above 65 years from worship centres, while women should perform ablution from home among other conditions.
It was, however, gathered that few churches conducted Sunday service in Ilorin after over 10 weeks of lockdown.
It was observed that worshippers wore their face masks and observed social distancing during service in some of the churches.
Chairman of the State Christian Association of Nigeria Compliance Committee, Special Apostle Shina Ibiyemi, said all the churches that conducted service complied with the protocol.
Ibiyemi commended them for their discipline and for absolutely obeying the directives.
He said, “CAN will continue to work with the government to monitor situation especially during the week.”
