A Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo has granted bail to seven politicians mentioned in the attack on some members of the governing All Progressives Congress, APC.

The accused earlier arraigned before Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy and assault leveled against them by the Osun State Commissioner of Police.

The defendants granted bail were the incumbent caretaker secretary of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Rasaq Salinsile and the chairman of a splinter group loyal to the former governor of the state and Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, Lowo Adebiyi. Others kept in a dock alongside Salinsile and Adelowo were former Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Biyi Odunlade, Alaba Popoola, Azeez Adekunle, Kazeem Salami and Gbenga Akano

While Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara granted bail to Salinsile, Adebiyi, Salami, Odunlade and Akano, on self recognisance in a sum of N5 million each, the Magistrate admitted Alaba and Adekunle to bail in a sum of N5 million with one surety each. The surety, it was learnt, must either be a civil servant or house owner residing within the jurisdiction of the magistrate.

The case was adjourned till September 24 for mention.

Recall that the duo of Hamzat Babatunde and Muideen Ajetumbi, members of the APC in the state, were on August 14 this year attacked with dangerous weapons by persons presumed to be running errands for the defendants. The incident occurred when the party’s Ward Congress Appeal Committee was adjudicating on the petitions filed by the loyalists of Aregbesola.
