Deborah, a Christian was on Thursday, May 12 dragged outside her hostel, beaten, killed and burnt by her Muslim colleagues in the presence of security personnel, for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Her killing has been condemned by people from within and outside Nigeria.

The petition titled, ‘THIS IS BECOMING A TREND,’ says, “In March 2021, similarly, some angry youths backed by leaders in Sade community in the Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State burnt a man identified as Talle Mai Ruwa, to death for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad.

“Mai Ruwa was reportedly dragged away from his house on Tuesday in the presence of his mother and burnt to death in the middle of the community.

“If we don’t get justice for Deborah, we’ll lose more people to this. #JusticeForDeborah.”

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, while condemning the killing had described the killing as a sin against God (Allah in Islam)

“I strongly condemn the appalling stoning to death of a Christian woman in Sokoto, Nigeria. This violence is a sin against God. I pray for the family and loved ones of Deborah Samuel, and I continue to pray fervently for the nation of Nigeria,” he had said.

Police on Monday, May 16 arraigned the two suspects, Bilyaminu Aliyu and Aminu Hukunchi, before the Sokoto State Magistrate Court for allegedly participating in Deborah’s killing.

The suspects who were represented by 34 Muslim lawyers led by Professor Mansur Ibrahim, were charged with criminal conspiracy and inciting of public disturbance.

7,339 people have signed the petition tagged “#JusticeForDeborah: Her killers must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” at the time of filing this report.
