Oyo State Government will this week begin the payment of outstanding salary arrears to its workers after an agreement reached between the government and the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress.

While the local government workers are being owed salaries of May and June, other workers in the state are being owed salaries of April, May and June.

Chairman of the state NLC, Waheed Olojede, who spoke with our correspondent in Ibadan on Sunday, said that the exercise would begin with the payment of March salary to workers on grade level 13 and above.

According to him, the payment would not include the local government workers who have already collected their March and April salaries.

He said, “With the sustained consultation of the labour union with the Oyo State Government over the weekend, it is now clear that the payment of the balance of March salary to workers in the mainstream of public service on grade level 13 and above, pensions and subventions to the judiciary and state higher institutions will commence with immediate effect.

“The state government and labour will resume talks on Tuesday on other outstanding for April, May and June.”

Olojede said the absence of a commissioner made the negotiation difficult when Governor Abiola Ajimobi was not around.

He also assured workers in the state that the hardship experienced in the last few months would soon be over.
