Oyo, Osun unions protest, urge FG to implement committee’s recommendations

Workers in Oyo State have urged the Federal Government to implement the Tripartite Committee report on new pay.The workers, under the aegis of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), joined their colleagues across the country on a nationwide protest to demand the implementation of N30,000 new wage.

Led by state NLC Chairman, Comrade Waheed Olojede and his TUC counterpart, Comrade Emmanel Ogundiran, the protesting workers carried placards with inscriptions as: Workers Are Not Slaves; On N30,000 New Minimum Wage We Stand; Decent Minimum Wage Is A Right, Not A Privilege and Workers Deserve The Best, Do It Now.

In the procession, which started from NLC Secretariat and ended at State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, they noted that processions were largely unnecessary due to the fact that states and Federal Government, labour and organised private sector had earlier agreed on N30,000.

Meanwhile, Osun state workers yesterday protested against non-implementation of the proposed N30,000 as new least wage by the Federal Government. The workers had earlier converged on the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo to register their grievances, also went to the Ola-Iya Junction as they sang different solidarity songs to press home their demands.

Armed with placards with different inscriptions as: No Retreat, No Surrender On Our Demand; We Will Be Resolute To Our Plight; We Will Not Relent In Pursuing Our Goals and On N30,000 Minimum Wage We Stand, they threatened not to back down over non-implementation of the new minimum pay. While addressing them, the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Jacob Adekomi said they would not relent until their demands are met.
