The presidential aspiration of a former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim yesterday received a boost from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the National Assembly.
The lawmakers, during an interactive session with Anyim pledged to support the Ebonyi-born politician.
Speaking at the event, which held at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, Senate Minority Leader Eyinnaya Abaribe highlighted Anyim’s leadership qualities. He said Anyim’s popularity and grassroots appeal are asset to PDP.
Abaribe said: “How can we tell you not to go ahead, being one of our own? On behalf of the joint caucus of the National Assembly, we say go on and take charge. We are with you.”
Also, the Minority Leader in the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu, described Anyim as the light in the PDP that will illuminate the dark paths in the nation’s political terrain.
He said the party should take advantage of the disarray in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to rescue Nigerians from the pains of the past few years.
Elumelu advised Anyim and other PDP presidential aspirants to eschew speech, reminding them that after the primary, they would all return home to the same political family.
He said: “I want to thank our presidential hopeful for bringing the light and leading the way by being the first to come and consult with National Assembly minority caucus.
“You have set the pace and we understand what this means to the grassroots and for that, I give you kudos.
