PDP Sweeps Council Election In Benue

The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won all the positions in the Saturday’s local government elections in the state.

Chairman of the state’s Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC, Joseph Tersoo, said PDP won all the 276 councillorship positions in the state.

Loko made the disclosure while announcing the results of the elections on Sunday.

Speaking in Makurdi, the state capital, Loko disclosed that five political parties participated in the election.

Loko listed the parties to include: the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Labour Party (LP), African Action Congress (AAC) and Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The BSIEC chairman also said certificates of return would be presented to the elected chairmen and councillors on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Abba Moro, has lauded the Loko-led electoral commission for the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

Moro in a statement by his aide on new media, Emmanuel Eche-Ofun John, tasked the elected chairmen and councillors not to betray the mandate reposed in them.
