Barrister Gboyega Oguntuwase, Ekiti state Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party is an Evangelist who is passionate about the gospel and testimony of Jesus Christ. In this interview with our Ekiti State correspondent, Gbenga Sodeinde, Oguntuwase spoke confidently about the chances of PDP coming back to power in 2019, giving the social, economic and political indices.
Barrister Oguntuase in a chat with Infotrust, affirmed that despite what the ruling party may be doing to ensure that there is no cohesion in PDP, PDP would regain power in Nigeria in 2019.
He commended the activities of the present Ekiti lawmakers under the administration of Governor Fayose and faulted the operations of the past lawmakers during Governor Kayode Fayemi regime in the state, saying the present Ekiti Assembly is filled with men of good characters.
How optimistic are you about the chances of PDP in 2019 election?
PDP would bounce back. The path on the ground in Nigeria now has clearly shown that APC is destroying itself, human right in this country is being bastardized,which is affecting everybody across all political,social and economic groupings. It has been an anti-PDP movement. There has been a movement by the APC to breach the right of the PDP and deprive them of even their right , arrest them, intimidate them and see if they can put them in prison.
It is a dangerous thing to decamp to APC as they would never include you within their inner caucus, they still doubt the loyalty of those who defected to APC from PDP. Take Saraki for instance, despite his contribution financially and politically towards the emergence of APC, he became president of Senate legitimately, but because he was elected contrary to the oligarchy opinion and opinion of few cabals,they decided to wage war against this man, and probably remove him by every possible method they can use.
Petroleum price used to be N85 during Jonathan, they said Jonathan was not active. The man that is active,who they think has the integrity,could bring a change, with the change now the Petroleum pump price is about N145.
Instead of them to acknowledge their inadequacies,they are trying to explain inadequacies by levelling unfounded allegations against the PDP. The value of naira, vis a vis the exchange rate-dollar,pound sterling, against the naira is outrageously high now. It has affected every situation in Nigeria. Industries could not sustain their staff, people are losing their jobs. More than 31 states in this country cannot pay salary regularly. Workers are suffering in nearly all APC states, an indication that APC would loose in the next election. The contrast of APC is the strength of PDP.

I’m a lawyer by training, I am also a law abiding Nigerian who is obviously against forgery. Forgery is not only within political millieu, recently a fake doctor was arrested in Lagos, another fake doctor was arrested in Abuja, all over they are there,fake pharmacist,fake lecturers,fake students who manufacture certificates and results and present them for admission.
I know of the head of government in the West Africa sub region that everybody doubts whether he has sufficient educational capacity to occupy that position. It is a ridiculous thing to hire senior advocate or professors to defend your certificate scandal. Present your certificate,if truly you have it.
Attitude of individual matters more,even if you are a professor. You can be a professor and be a bad politician,if you lack conscience,consciousness of God,if your orientation about politics is avaricious-not people oriented,if you are not thinking of sharing the dividend of democracy and you are a professor,you are a stupid professor.
The constitution stipulates that school certificate is sufficient if you are a good and reasonable man, why forge higher certificate? Education is good,but at the same time in politicking,one must be reasonable, God fearing and be committed to build the new nation.
Can we say Buhari’s anti corruption crusade is witch hunting the opponent and one sided?
I adopt the opinion of my party that the fight against corruption of the APC government is one sided and intended to make sure that they destroy opposition in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It has been targeted against those who are vocal in PDP.
We want to tell them,nobody says don’t fight corruption, but fight corruption across board.
How will you rate the present Ekiti Assembly in comparison to the immediate past Assembly?
In doing that I will look at the issue of liberalism. The present Ekiti Assembly is liberal,they look at issues as they should be. They don’t target laws against people,they don’t aim at intimidating people,they dont aim at frustrating government. To crown it all,they are not ready to take money to impeach governor.
The past Assembly were hell bent on impeaching the governor, that is lawlessness, operating partisan ship to a level of insanity. When they were under Fayemi, that misled the entire Ekiti state and destroyed our economic structure, everything was well! When Fayose came in and he has not even started administering,they wanted to come in forcefully impeach him, that is unreasonably and indecency. If any of them is a professor, he is a stupid professor, if he’s a Doctor,he’s a crazy Doctor. The present Ekiti Assembly is filled with men of good characters.
