The local organizing committee for the 2018 Modern Pentathlon Union Youth Olympic Games qualifier and the Senior African Championship, slated to hold simultaneously from December 4 to11 in Lagos, are optimistic of hosting a befitting championship.

Speaking in Lagos at the weekend, Chairman of the LOC, Chief Francis Ogboro insisted that his committee can deliver the events for Nigeria, saying they cannot afford to fail.

Ogboro, who is also the president of the Nigeria Polo Federation, said the world body (the modern pentathlon Union) knows that Nigeria, as one of the leading countries in the world when it comes to sports, has the capacity to host the event and that informed the hosting right awarded to her.

The Chairman said his LOC has already set machinery in motion towards actualizing this dream by setting up seven different sub-committees who are already working round the clock for the smooth organization of the competition.

A total of 22 countries are coming for the event that would be happening in the continent for the first time since Africa has never hosted such an event before.

Modern Pentathlon consists of four sports namely, athletics, fencing, polo and shooting.
