Four persons were seriously injured in Oruk Anam council of Akwa Ibom State as they attempted to snatch ballot boxes, where voting was still going on till Sunday morning.

Non-availability and late arrival of materials apparently marred the smooth conduct of the polls in so many units in the state as voting continued into the night.

This happened as the Police have arrested four political thugs for allegedly snatching ballot boxes in Abak town, headquarters of Abak local government area.

Police Public Relations Officer, Macdon Ogbechie, a Deputy Superintendent of Police said that the political thugs were apprehended at Technical College in Abak.

Besides, INEC adhoc staff were beaten up and voters driven away from the unit, but nobody was injured in the melee.

He said the Army personnel chased down the thugs into the hands of the Police on patrol as they bolted away with the materials.

“We arrested five persons who snatched ballot boxes in Abak. They went to the place and drove away everybody, beaten up SPO and the rest. However, the CP arrival restored normalcy and the exercise continued.

We are working in collaboration with other sister security agencies.

We handed them over to the DPO for further investigation.”
