Police Arrest Suspected Car Snatching Syndicate Member In Rivers

Operatives of the Octopus Strike Force of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested one Nnali Osita suspected to be a member of a notorious car snatching syndicate that specializes in robbing drivers of a cab-hailing service, Bolt.

The command, in a statement by its spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni, said the suspect was arrested after a car snatching incident was reported to the command by one Yusuf Ogunshola, who is a Bolt driver, hired from Effurun in Delta state to Port Harcourt by the suspect.

“The victim was then taken to Abel Jumbo Street in Mile 2 area of Port Harcourt where two other members of the gang were waiting,” the statement read.

“On arrival to the location, the bolt driver was attacked and dispossessed of his personal belongings at gunpoint and also withdrew the sum of N8,000 from his bank account and afterwards was taken to and locked in a toilet belonging to a new generation church in the same street.”

The police spokesman said in the course of investigations, operatives of the command got some clues that led them to Gambia Street, where the suspects had “perfected plans to sell the car”.

On sighting the police, the suspects abandoned the car and tried to escape but ran out of luck after one of them Nnali Osita was apprehended.

The statement further revealed that effort has been intensified to ensure that the fleeing gang members are arrested and their operational weapons recovered.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, has vowed to come hard on all miscreants in the state while also advising those in the transport business to be circumspect and shun all mouthwatering offers which is the antics deployed by the criminals to attack their victims.
