Police in Bauchi State has insisted that only statutory security agencies recognised by law will be allowed to provide security for the election, as all quasi-security agencies, including vigilante and hunters, are barred from the entire election process.

The Commissioner of Police, Ali Janga disclosed this yesterday while addressing journalists on the command’s preparedness for today’s state elections in his office.
He said that important personalities and politicians were also barred from moving around with security details.
CP Janga assured members of the public that the police had put in place adequate security measures to assure level-playing ground for all political parties for a smooth exercise.
Reacting to an allegation that the police, in collaboration with the government, was planning to put the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under house arrest, Janga said: “The police cannot just make arrest without the person committing any offence. We make arrest based on what you have done. If we do not find you wanting, we release you to go on bail. But how can you arrest a candidate? For what? What has he done?
“Have they ever arrested any candidate here in Bauchi? We can’t arrest anybody and nobody is planning to arrest anybody. So, these are mere allegations that cannot even be proved.”
The police boss urged parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, opinion leaders and s to prevail on their children and subjects not to allow themselves to be used to disturb public peace before, during and after the elections, as anybody arrested in the act would face the full wrath of the law.
