Police Restates Commitment To Peaceful Rerun Election In Sokoto

The Police Command in Sokoto state has restated its commitment to ensure a peaceful rerun governorship election scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on March 23 in the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, ASP Muhammad Sadiq, gave the assurance while briefing newsmen on Monday in Sokoto.

Sadiq, who made the remark while parading 12 suspected criminals arrested by a team of policemen on patrol, said the command has put in place all necessary measures to ensure the rerun polls in Sokoto state is peaceful.

“We have organized a special team of policemen on patrol to ensure that no criminal hideout is left untouched to sanitize the election process before, during and after the polls.

“The Nigerian police will not allow any person or group of people to complicate the democratic process in the state, as such, all necessary measures are being taken to ensure a smooth process.

“Presently, our team of policemen during a special patrol arrested no fewer than 12 suspected criminals being in possession of 140 wraps of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 549 pieces of Exol and six sachets of Diazepam.

“This suspects were arrested at various hideouts within the state that includes; Gidan Igwai, Old Garage, Central Motor park, Gangaren Gidan Dankure and Mana areas of the state,” he said.

The Police spokesman listed the suspects to include; Yusuf Umar, Suleiman Saidu, Usamatu Kabiru, Aminu Isah and Babangida Ibrahim.

Others were; Abubakar Mu’azu, Abubakar Shehu, Aliyu Bello, Yunusa Abdullahi, Bello Isah, Mujitaba Ahmad and Nura Abubakar.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that INEC had declared the March 9 governorship election in Sokoto state as inconclusive and ordered for a rerun election on March 23.
