The Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi, has called on politicians to shun politics of bitterness ahead of next year’s governorship election in the state, saying no position is worth the blood of anyone.

He also assured that he would not be distracted from completing his projects and other areas of service delivery by the politics of who succeeds him in 2022.

Fayemi made the remark in Ado-Ekiti while giving his “State of the State Address” marking his third year in office, with the theme, “Consolidation,” at the state assembly complex.

Highlighting his administration’s achievements, the governor said despite paucity of funds, his administration, in the last three years, had delivered 1,000 projects and 1,000 rural roads across the state.

He added that his administration had also ensured regular payment of salaries, strengthened the civil service and motivated workers through local and foreign training.

He said efforts had been intensified to improve power supply in the state as his government had finalised agreement with the Niger Delta Power Company to start a 7Mw power generation, among his other industrialisation plans for the state.

On the deplorable state of the Ado Ekiti-Akure road, Fayemi said his administration would continue to engage the federal government towards ensuring that something concrete was done to alleviate the people’s lamentations concerning the road.

He stated that his administration also lifted the state’s performance in the area of education, such that two Ekiti students were among those that led the 2021 Unified Tertiary Examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), while schools and teachers in the state also won federal government’s laurels during the last World Teacher’s Day celebration in Abuja.

The governor added that the administration had also created 19 new development areas aimed at bringing governance closer to the people.

On agriculture, which he described as having many untapped opportunities, Fayemi said his administration had promoted agri-business aimed at creating wealth through mechanised and agro-allied means.

“I am convinced that within our ability, we have been faithful to the Ekiti people when it comes to fulfilling electioneering promises,” the governor said.

Earlier, the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Funminiyi Afuye, commended the administration for living by its promises, saying all the lawmakers were proud of its performance.

“Under you, the executive and the legislature have a harmonious working relationship, while maintaining their institutional independence,” Afuye added.
