The billion of dollars investment in the Lekki Free Trade Zone axis of Lagos is being threatened by the non-availability of appropriate infrastructure that promote conducive business environment.
This was the view of the investors on that axis when the Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, visited the Zone yesterday.The Chairman and Managing Director, Lekki Free Trade Zone Development Company, Abiodun Dabiri and Ding Yonghua and the Managing Director of Lekki Worldwide Investment, Tunde Shodade all maintained that the investors are not able to explore opportunities to make their investment impactful and have the needed return on investment because they are being limited by lack of infrastructure.
They listed dilapidated and inaccessible roads, lack of water, inability to take possession of some land and funding as the challenges they are grappling with. They are however happy that the governor was willing and open to helping them in tackling the issues.

Ambode said with the ongoing construction of seaport, airport and others, it is obvious that a single road isn’t sufficient for the zone. He maintained that the state government would ensure that the project is actualised, as it was ready to make the Eastern axis of Lagos, the economic hub of the state.
After visiting the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Ambode commissioned the modern bus terminal at TBS, where he promised to transform the Onikan-Marina axis into Africa’s tourism hub.
He listed other projects that would help make the axis Africa’s tourism hub to include converting the Presidential Lodge into the Centre for Leadership and Heritage; the governor’s lodge would be converted to Historical Centre; a new museum will be built within the Lagos National Museum; the JK Randle Arcade would be refurbished and upgraded and a skywalk linking the Presidential Lodge to the Freedom Park. Thereafter, he went to Ojota to commission the newly constructed pedestrian bridge.
